It can look impressive. It is also fragile.
The more indispensable one individual becomes, the more vulnerable the organization may become when that person is unavailable, leaves, or simply cannot scale any further.
WHY DOES AI MAKE FOUNDER DEPENDENCE MORE DANGEROUS?
Because when expertise becomes more accessible, organizational capability becomes more valuable.
The competitive advantage moves toward firms that can turn individual knowledge into repeatable institutional capability.
WHAT SHOULD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES FIRMS DO ABOUT AI?
Treat AI as a management test—not only a technology project.
Ask the questions firms should probably have been asking all along:
What knowledge exists only inside one person’s head? What clients depend entirely on one partner? What decisions stop without a specific leader? What process breaks when someone leaves?
Those answers tell you where the real risk lives.
WILL AI REPLACE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES LEADERS?
That is not the most useful question. AI is more likely to change what clients value and what organizations need from their leaders.
The future belongs to firms that can transform expertise into institutional capability.
AI is not ending professional services.
It may be ending the idea that one hero should hold the whole thing together.
The better question is:
